Suspected Drunk Driver Hits State Trooper In Fall River

FALL RIVER, Mass. (CBS/AP) — Massachusetts state police say a woman has been arrested after striking a police cruiser in Fall River and continuing to drive past the vehicle until she was stopped by another trooper down the road.

Police say the incident occurred shortly after 3:37 a.m. Saturday. Troopers were on a road detail protecting a highway crew on Route 195 West, near the Plymouth Exit.

Police say the trooper whose cruiser was struck reported leg pain but said he would seek medical help on his own.

The woman, identified as Laurie Lacle, 48, of Somerset, was arrested for driving while drunk, negligent operation, leaving the scene of a crash, failure to move over for an emergency vehicle and driving an uninspected motor vehicle.

Police did not immediately identify the trooper involved in the crash.
