Man Charged With 3rd OUI In Hit & Run Boating Crash Off Salem
BOSTON (CBS) - A Salem man was charged with his third OUI on Tuesday afternoon after a hit and run boating accident where he crashed into a sail boat, took off, and wound up running aground on a rocky shoal just off Salem.
Police say 43-year-old Bradford Smith appeared intoxicated when they arrived.
Officers also said Smith was uncooperative.
Smith recently had his driver's license reinstated after losing it for 10 years over alcohol-related incidents.
He will be charged with OUI as well as leaving the scene of an accident.
A judge ordered Smith to be held without bail for up to 90 days as a danger to the public.
There will be a pretrial hearing on August 30.
