BOSTON (CBS) – United Airlines Flight 956 from Newark to Geneva, Switzerland was diverted to Boston Tuesday evening after a flight attendant found a suspicious item in a seat back pocket.
The item turned out to be a camera.
The jet landed safely at Logan Airport at about 9:15 p.m.
Two F-15 fighter jets were scrambled out of Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield to escort the flight back to Boston as a precaution, but the flight landed before they could reach it.
The 157 passengers and 11 crew members were evacuated while State Police searched the plane.
State Police say the camera was located in an airsickness bag on an unbooked seat and an X-ray showed nothing hazardous. The plane did not need to be swept by bomb dogs.
Passengers were put up in local hotels for the night.
Massport says the flight will continue to Geneva Wednesday afternoon.
