ORLEANS (CBS) – The 21-pound lobster that has been on display at Capt’n Elmer’s restaurant will be released back into the waters of Cape Cod.
The restaurant was holding a drawing, but after an outpouring of concern, they did not want to “allow the future of this noble lobster to be determined by chance.”
The lobster was caught off Nauset Beach in Orleans.
Capt’n Elmer’s Manager Elise Costa said, “Often when we have lobsters this large, people come in to catch them, and they like to release them, which is kinda cool.”
The drawing will continue, but the winner will now choose between 21 pounds of smaller lobsters or the opportunity to participate in the lobster’s release.
Proceeds from the drawing benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. CLICK HERE for more information on the drawing.
