BOSTON (CBS) – Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is heading to the disabled list.
Ortiz injured his right Achilles Monday night while rounding second on an Adrian Gonzalez three-run home run against the Chicago White Sox. Ortiz said he suffered the injury when he hit the bag, but did not hear a pop.

An MRI on Tuesday did not reveal a tear or rupture, and the second opinion Ortiz received in Florida on Wednesday agreed with that.
But Ortiz, who was wearing a boot on his right foot on Tuesday, is expected to miss 10-14 days — making a trip to the DL necessary.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine announced the move on Wednesday afternoon. Mauro Gomez is expected to take Ortiz’ spot on the roster.
