BOSTON (CBS) – Some Massachusetts military families hit the water Saturday, sailing along the Charles River.
Community boating took around 70 veterans and their families out for a day on the river.
It’s all part of the Home base Adventure Series to bring military families together for free activities during and after deployments.
Roger Knight, who is part of the Home Base Program says the families deserve this.
“When one member of the family serves, the entire family serves. And what you see today is vets and families enjoying the day and learning about services available for them through home base. (022817)
Veterans who participate in the program say it’s a great way to bring them together.
I definitely think it’s a good thing, Marines Sgt. Bryan Lett said. “Anything that you can find that’s common ground in an uncommon situation is something to build on and come together around.”
The home base program is funded through the Red Sox Foundation and Mass General Hospital. It provides services to vets and families affected by combat stress.
