WASHINGTON, DC (CBS) – A 62-year old war veteran from Lawrence was killed in a hit and run crash outside Washington, DC Tuesday morning, two weeks after his girlfriend reported him missing.

Robert Shepard was found dead on a sidewalk in Arlington, Virginia.

Police believe he was hit by a speeding car that threw him more than 60 feet.

Shepard’s girlfriend reported him missing from Lawrence two-and-a-half weeks ago.
