Nine People Injured In Fireworks Explosion At Pelham, NH Home

UPDATE: 11 Hurt - Including 5 Children

PELHAM, NH (CBS) - Rescue crews responded to a home in Pelham, New Hampshire after nine people were injured in a fireworks explosion.

Seven of the victims were taken to the hospital including two children who were Med-Flighted to Boston.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Dodge Road Tuesday evening.

The explosion occurred on the back porch and the home was on fire when police and fire crews arrived. Police say a large amount of fireworks were found inside and around the home.

The owner of the home, Chris Pappathan, is an insurance executive. Neighbors say Pappathan has a big fireworks show every year.

"Every year it gets larger and larger," says neighbor Barbara Catanzano. "He's very careful, very cautious, knows what he's doing, but something didn't go right."

"He spends a lot of money on the fireworks," says Taylor Jackson. "He makes sure everyone is far enough away, and he puts on a great show.

The nine victims range in age from infant to adult.

The extent of the injuries are unknown. The explosion remains under investigation.
