Leominster police say 31-year-old Ruth Allende parked her car outside the Old Navy at the Mall at Whitney Field Sunday afternoon and left her infant niece locked inside.

Police say the baby was alone for about 30 minutes in the Hyundai Elantra and that the outdoor temperature was 80 degrees.

Security was alerted and they broke into the car.  The child was taken to the hospital for observation.  Allende was arrested.

She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Monday in Leominster District Court on child endangerment and disorderly conduct charges.

Police told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 she put up quite a fuss over being arrested.

It was revealed in court Monday that the infant's parents do not have custody of the child.  She remains in state custody.
