Exploding Toilets? 2 Million Flushing Systems Recalled

BOSTON (CBS) - More than 2 million toilets in danger of exploding led to a voluntarily recall on Thursday.

The toilets in question contain the "Flushmate III Pressure-Assisted Flushing System," which can burst and possibly shatter the toilet's tank.

Flushmate has received more than 300 reports of bursting tanks, resulting in property damage. In 14 cases, people suffered laceration injuries.

The recall is for the Flushmate flushing systems manufactured in the United States from October 1997 to February 2008. It was sold at Home Dept and Lowe's stores for about $108 and was also sold to toilet manufacturers including American Standard, Crane, Eljer, Gerber, Kohler, Mansfield and St. Thomas.

To determine if your flushing system is included in the recall, check the label on top of the system. The first six numbers of the serial number indicate the date code (the recall includes systems between "101497" and "022908").

For more information about the recall, consumers can call Flushmate at 1-800-303-5123 or visit http://recall.flushmate.com.
