Westwood Police Search For Driver Who Injured Woman, Killed Dog

WESTWOOD (CBS) – Police in Westwood are looking for the driver who hit a woman and her dog and then fled the scene. The crash happened shortly before 9:00 pm Monday night on Route 1A.

The woman, 26-year-old Jillian Belanger, was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition. The dog died as a result of the crash.

Police say it was still light out when the crash happened.

The vehicle that struck Belanger and her dog is believed to have sustained front-end damage, including a broken headlight. Police are looking for a white four door sedan with a moon-roof.

This is the second hit and run accident on Route 1A this month. Earlier in June, a doctor riding his bycicle was hit a couple miles away in neighboring Norwood. That driver later turned himself in to police.

Anyone with information on this latest hit and run is asked to contact Westwood Police at 781-320-1000.
