A baby Siberian Crane was hatched at Franklin Park Zoo earlier this month.
BOSTON (CBS) – Franklin Park Zoo is welcoming a new addition.
A rare Siberian Crane chick hatched there about two weeks ago.
The chick is still too young to be on public display.
It’s being hand-raised by Zoo staff. The chick’s parents, a breeding pair, have resided at Franklin Park Zoo since 1993. They’re two of just 19 in captivity in North America.
The zoo says it expects to introduce the chick with its parents later this summer.
Experts say there are only about 3,000 Siberian Cranes left in the wild.
