Report: Red Sox Held 'Heated' Players-Only Meeting May 11

BOSTON (CBS) - After an 8-3 loss to the Indians on May 11, the Red Sox held a "heated" players-only meeting, according to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

According to the report, David Ortiz, who has been in Boston since 2003, called the meeting.

The night before the meeting, Josh Becket allowed seven runs in 2.1 innings to the Cleveland Indians and was booed off the mound by the Fenway Park crowd. With the loss, the Red Sox dropped to 13-19.

The hitters reportedly called on the pitchers to "step it up" in a meeting one player described as "heated."

After the meeting, the Red Sox went on to win five straight games and seven of nine overall before Sunday's game with the Phillies.
