Patrick: Obama Showed Leadership In Supporting Same-Sex Marriage

BOSTON (CBS) - Pundits are dissecting the political implications of President Obama's statement this past week that he supports same-sex marriage.

On Face The Nation Sunday morning, Gov. Deval Patrick said the move is about moral convictions and not politics.

"We don't have to agree on everything before we work together on anything. People get that this is about human dignity, and I applaud the president for standing up for human dignity. That is an American value, and it's a real indication of this president's leadership," said Gov. Patrick.

Meanwhile on Saturday, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney gave the commencement address at the nation's largest evangelical college, Liberty University, in which he declared that marriage should be only between a man and a woman.
