David Ortiz Ticketed For Car Accident On Way To Fenway Park
BOSTON (CBS) – David Ortiz was ticketed for causing a multi-car accident on Boylston Street in Boston on Friday.
Ortiz was on his way to Fenway Park for Friday night’s game when he got into the crash.
Everyone involved in the accident, including Ortiz, is okay.
Police said the other driver involved in the crash was stopped at the red light at the intersection of Boylston Street and Ipswich Street when Ortiz’s car spun out of a gas station and struck the front driver’s side of the car.
Boston Police said that Ortiz was issued a citation for an improperly made left turn.
“I lost a little control coming out of the gas station and I hit a car, but I’m fine,” Ortiz told WBZ-TV shortly after the accident. “Everybody is fine.”
“(Ortiz) was trying to make sure the people he hit were okay,” Tyler Bishop said.
Tyler and Kayley Bishop both witnessed the crash. They say it looked like Ortiz was speeding.
“I saw the 180 but did not see the actual impact,” Tyler Bishop told WBZ-TV’s Karen Anderson. “What happened was he was speeding, tried to slam on his brakes and spun out of control, hit a car and then turned around.”
“I think everybody is going to make mistakes,” Kayley Bishop said. “He went a little too fast and he’s not going to do it again. Now he’s going to be late for his game so he definitely won’t do it again.”
Asked about Friday’s game against the Indians, Ortiz added “we’re going to try to be fine.” He is still in the lineup for the game, batting third as the designated hitter.
Ortiz is hitting .352 with 7 home runs and 23 RBI this season for the last-place Red Sox.
