BOURNE (CBS) – Bourne police put two schools into lockdown Friday morning after they received a call about a teen with a gun.
A bus driver called 911 around 6:15 a.m. after she got on her bus and was startled by a teenager in the back who, she claimed, appeared to have a rifle.
The young man jumped out the back door of the bus and ran off towards the old Waldorf School, which is no longer in use.
But the high school and an elementary school are nearby, so police put both into lockdown mode, which means no one was allowed in or out of the building.
The lockdown was lifted after two hours, but the search went on for several more hours.
The 16-year-old was found and taken into custody around 1 p.m.
The rifle turned out to be a pellet gun.
It’s still not clear what he was doing on the bus. Details about the arrest have also not been released.
He’s charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing a school.
