LOWELL (CBS) – A Lowell mother was shocked recently when she received a bill of more than $80 for her daughter to eat lunch at school.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Rod Fritz reports.
Janice Doucette’s daughter Kylei, who is in first grade at the Reilly Elementary School, was given a card by the school allowing her to charge lunch.
“It’s a card with her ID on it and it has a scan code and when she goes up through the line, she swipes her card. I have never authorized use of that card,” Doucette said.
Each day, Doucette said she gave her daughter lunch money, which Kylei spent on breakfast at the school instead.
For lunch, Kylei would use the card, and rang up an overdue balance of $80.85. Doucette said she was unaware what her daughter was doing with the money.
Doucette added that a lot of parents are unaware their kids have these cards.
