BOSTON (CBS) – Major General L. Scott Rice has been named the interim commander of the Massachusetts National Guard, less than a week after the current commander was placed on leave because a woman accused him of rape.
Gov. Deval Patrick made the appointment Tuesday.
Rice is a Major General with the Air National Guard.
Maj. Gen. Joseph Carter, the highest ranking officer in the Massachusetts National Guard, was put on paid leave last week after he told Patrick he was the subject of an investigation by the Army’s Criminal Investigations Command.
Carter has denied the rape accusation.
