L. Scott Rice Named Interim Commander Of Mass. National Guard

BOSTON (CBS) – Major General L. Scott Rice has been named the interim commander of the Massachusetts National Guard, less than a week after the current commander was placed on leave because a woman accused him of rape.

Gov. Deval Patrick made the appointment Tuesday.

Rice is a Major General with the Air National Guard.

Maj. Gen. Joseph Carter,  the highest ranking officer in the Massachusetts National Guard, was put on paid leave last week after he told Patrick he was the subject of an investigation by the Army’s Criminal Investigations Command.

Carter has denied the rape accusation.

MG Rice is an officer and a gentleman. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that this man can and will restore trust an honor back into the Mass Guard. Ironically, about 13 years ago, it took a respectable man in “blue” to bring faith back when a different Army TAG had disgraced the organization back then. That man in blue had left a long lasting impression on both the Army and Air personnel he lead. I am sure MG Rice will epitomize many of the same human qualities and we will see a lot of happy faces in the days, months and hopefully years to come. Hoah!
