Mega Millions Jackpot Now Up To $540 Million

BOSTON (CBS) – The Mega Millions jackpot is now at $540 million for Friday’s drawing, a new world record.

The jackpot jumped to $476 million overnight into Wednesday morning after no one won Tuesday night’s drawing.

Those numbers were: 9, 19, 34, 44, 51 and the Mega Ball 24.

That jackpot was $363 million, which means the total prize has increased $177 million in less than 36 hours.

The lump-sum cash option is now up to a record $389 million.

The previous jackpot record was $390 million, for a Mega Millions game in March 2007. Two winning tickets that year were purchased in Georgia and New Jersey.

The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 176 million.

Can someone explain to me why the jackpot is 540 Million but the lump sum is 389? When you get taxed are they going to tax you on your “winnings” of 540 Million or your actual 389 Million? Ohhh to have those things to worry about! LOL..
