Boston Catholic School Campaign Gets $1 Million
BOSTON (AP) — Two hundred students at the largest elementary school in Boston will be on hand to celebrate a $1 million gift made to the Campaign for Catholic Schools by John Hancock Financial.
The gift will be used to support literacy programs for English and non-language learners, and recruitment programs to improve faculty diversity at Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.
John Hancock plans to complement its financial gift with an in-school history program provided by the Freedom Trail Foundation.
Historical figures Samuel Adams, Gov. Thomas Hutchinson and John Hancock — portrayed by Freedom Trail Players — will help celebrate the gift during a program at the school Monday.
