When officers arrived they found two people shot upstairs, 63-year-old Cynthia Bloomquist and her estranged husband, 64-year-old Kenneth Bloomquist.

He died at the scene.

Cynthia Bloomquist was rushed to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, where she was in stable condition Friday afternoon.

Police say the couple was separated and Cythnia lived at the home.

According to the Martha’s Vineyard Times, Kenneth Bloomquist cut the telephone wire to the house and broke in the door, armed with a shotgun.

A source told the paper he then shot his wife in the leg and she returned fire with a pistol, killing him.

Having a gun saved her life. No restraining order would have prevented her death. Even if he did not have a gun he would have attempted to kill her one way or another by other means. She was smart to protect herself this way.

    True Fred.

For once there’s a siutation when owning a gun, besides for violent crimes or hunting, actually came in handy.

Good for her! Now she won’t have to deal with this guy – ever.

Unless of course she set him up. He had a shot gun and only hit her in the leg. What an awful shot.

He may NOT have been a bad shot… We do not know the facts.

Perhaps she was just a bit quicker on the trigger in protecting herself. Maybe his aim was off because he took a bullet as he was pulling the trigger on his gun and it made him get her in the leg instead of where he wanted the bullet to go. If that turns out to be the case, then luck was very much on her side… I’m sure we’ll learn more…

I doubt she would have planned a set-up whereas she might actually get killed in the process.

lets wait until we here about the : facts” instead of spreading rumors, etc.
got to admit she is/was a good shot.

Next thing we’ll hear is that she didn’t have a permit for the gun so they’ll charge her with murder, based on how so many of our DA’s look at things these days. Hope she recovers quickly.

Its too bad that S.661 “An Act Relative to Common Defense” just rotted away in committee again this year. It would have allowed Mrs. Bloomquist to lawfully defend herself against her violent ex-husband.
As or right now, SHE IS A MURDERER IN THE EYES OF DEVAL PATRICK, MARSHA COAKLEY, AND THE ANTI-FREEDOM DEMOCRATS WHO RUN THE STATE. SHE CAN BE SUED BY HER EX-HUSBANDS FAMILY FOR WRONGFUL DEATH IN CIVIL COURT. SHE CAN AND PROBABLY WILL BE ARRESTED FOR MURDER FOR DEFENDING HER LIFE.

So True. Unfortunate, but still. Would like to see what the PD can put together about the circumstances. Just hits me as weird,. Just sayin’…..

Except that he was till her husband. They were only seperated; NOT divorced.

I wonder if she is still the bene on his life ins. policy….quite the payday.
(some divorce court judges order the life ins policies of LT couples to stay in tact)
