Bruins Sign Shawn Thornton To Two-Year Extension

BOSTON (CBS) - The Bruins have re-signed Shawn Thornton to a two-year contract extension after this season, the Bruins officially announced on Monday evening.

The contract extension was originally reported by TSN over the weekdn.

Thornton, 34, will earn $1.1 million per season beginning next year.

"I'm sure it will happen today, so I'm ecstatic," Thornton said Monday morning on Toucher & Rich.

He was set to become a free agent in the offseason.

This year, Thornton has four goals and eight assists in 70 games, while leading the league in fighting majors with 19.
