Crawford To Hit Soon, But Still No Timetable
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Opening day still seems like an aggressive estimate for Carl Crawford's season debut, but the Red Sox left fielder is getting closer to getting back on the field.
Manager Bobby Valentine said Thursday that Crawford will be "hitting soon," though Valentine admitted he doesn't know specifically when that will be.
It was announced last week that Crawford would be out for 7-10 days due to a setback in his recovery from wrist surgery. He said that his main concern would be getting his timing down, which Valentine said Crawford has been working on, even with his injury.
"The work that's gone unnoticed, I think, is going to pay dividends. He has taken it upon himself to find a pitcher every time he's throwing to stand there and [watch pitches]," Valentine said. "I think it's going to speed up his timing process, but I have no idea."
Valentine also updated the status of Jose Iglesias, saying the shortstop was given one extra day of rest to be safe as he recovers from a groin strain.
