Sen. Scott Brown Calls On Rush Limbaugh To Apologize For Student “Slut” Remark

BOSTON (AP) — Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is joining Democrats in calling on radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh to apologize for calling a law student “a slut” for testifying before Congress about the need for birth control coverage.

A Brown spokesman said that as the father of two daughters, the senator found the remarks offensive and reprehensible and believes Limbaugh should apologize.

Brown’s comments came after Massachusetts Democratic Party Executive Director Clare Kelly called on him to condemn Limbaugh’s remarks.

Democrats have seized on the comments as more evidence of what they describe as a Republican “war on women.”

Massachusetts Democrats have criticized Brown’s decision to co-sponsor an amendment that would have let employers claim a moral exemption to offering contraception coverage.

Brown defended the measure, which was defeated Thursday, as a protection of religious liberty.

The GOP, including Brown and Boehner, have not spoken up on Limbaugh’s disgusting remarks. They allowed their “spokesmen” to do it for them! Cowards!

    1. Sharon says:

He only spoke up once he saw how the wind was blowing.

  2. George Bush says:

Mike, Viagra is covered, why do I have to pay for all the impotent Republicans to get it up?

  3. Linda says:

No way should Rush apologize and NO WAY should we have to pay for someone else to have sex. These kids should have been taught to have morals. Nobody has apologized for trashing Sarah Palin or all the other people that gets trashed everyday. Its because this girl was sent before congress by the democrats to further obummers agenda, just more BS.

    1. gramps says:

      I agree Linda….

      gramps……PS

Except when the ‘Birth Control’ pill is needed for ‘medical reasons’ other than birth comtrol.

    2. gramps says:

The Pill isn’t just for birth control:

That’s the ‘rest of the story’…

      1. Tsal says:

        Good for you gramps.

I’m not sure I’m on board for it being covered for just BC. But who makes that decision. The insurance companies. The one thing I am dead sure about is that the catholic church should not have any say in this. NONE.

      2. Sharon says:

It’s very easy to tell that ya’ll have not listened to her testimony. Do you not get it? Rush LIED to you. He did not report on what she really said. AND She pays the premium herself with her own money and the church say she can’t use the birth control part because THEY say so. – Some thing she paid for with HER OWN money. Please do your own research and not rely on a shock jock for your news.

    3. Tsal says:

Linda limbaughs comments were revolting. He is revolting. And how does anyone condone what he said

      1. gramps says:

        1ST Ammendment….

      2. sparknut says:

Well Gramps, just because something is allowed by the first amendment doesn’t mean it is wise, appropriate or civil. I sure wish the companies that pay for advertisement on Rush’s show would stop. He’s an idiot and we don’t need any more idiots on the airwaves.

    4. tj says:

Linda, I am sorry your were the child left behind!
We need to stop calling this birth control and call it what it is which is treatment for women’s health. What medication a woman takes is between her and her doctor. PERIOD. I say the same for men. You use Viagra for whatever purpose, it’s between you and your doctor. PERIOD.
Linda, I hope you do not find yourself or a family member in need of any treatment that others oppose. Some oppose organ transplant, some oppose using all means possible to save a life, etc. I wish you health!
BTW, be careful of expressing your views, someone may call you a nasty name!

Gramps, Do you agree to the same limits on Viagra? Will you be using it ONLY to procreate? If not, can we call you a male slut publicly for taking part in our civil process? Who will decide if it should be made available for which reason? Would you like me to make that decision? Someone in our government? Santorum? Will you video tape it for Rush? It will help Rick decide if it is medically necessary as well.

  4. Mike says:

    Right on Linda.

  5. Joe says:

There is something very wrong with Mike and Linda…very wrong. You both are so unbelievable, grow the hell up. What does Sarah palin have to do with Limbaugh calling a woman a slut? For a man, any man to call another woman a slut is unforgivable. For people who supposedly who have morals, you are embarrassing yourselves.

  6. HDgal says:

It’s possible that she is a slut. She apparently is not married, not engaged, so, Rush
maybe right. Did anyone check Craig’s Liist:? I certainly do not want to pay for
    her extra-curricular activities.

    1. tj says:

It does not matter if this woman, you or your mother are the biggest “slut” in the world. You are all equally entitled to healthcare. No one should be denying you medication because your healthcare, employer, or favorite radio host doesn’t want to pay for it. You, your mother not a radio host has the right to defame you in public. The word “slut” and “Prostitute” are used to demean.
Finally, you obviously have no idea to what Limbaugh was referring. The testimony was about a third party not Ms. Fluke!!
Try to keep your ignorance to a minimum. Pay attention. It will benefit you in life.

  7. Tsal says:

Nice mike. Did you know she was speaking for a woman who had lost an ovary that taking the pill would have avoided happening.

    1. Tsal says:

Mike why do I pay for a mans V med

  8. Tsal says:

Linda are you aware of how many women take BC for medical reasons. How about they stop covering chemo. And want to explain why the male V pill is covered. If I spell it out I’m bound to go into moderation

    1. gramps says:

Mr. ‘V’ is covered because it takes care of a certain medical problem that ‘Mr. Johnson’ has!

      gramps

      1. Tsal says:

Same goes for mrs BC gramps. What’s the difference. Except men making the decision.

    2. gramps says:

Wrong again tsal, without Mr. ‘V’, Mr. Johnson is dead in the water…..He has a ‘medical condition’…..

Mrs. just has to lay there, read a book or eat an ‘apple’ & ask if he’s done yet!?

      gramps……..PS

The only medical condition that would prevnt the Mrs. is ‘the headache’!

      1. Tsal says:

Gramps male view. Do you even know what medical conditions are covered by the pill. I do. Only time either I or my girls had to use it was for very serious medical problems. I hated it. It gave me horrible headaches but the alternative was far worse. So try again. Aqnd do you really think only reason Viagra is taken is for a medical condition that has nothing to do with performance. Pahhhhleeeez

      2. Tsal says:

Darn used the v word again and post Got trapped Gramps sooooo it’s fine for ins to pay for a guy to do his buisiness. That’s a bit more than amusing. And do you have any idea of what the medical conditions are that the BC can prevent. I’d say not performing doesn’t come close.

      3. Tsal says:

And if you expect a woman to innovative to avoid pregnancy I’d suggest a man try innovation to. Either all or none

      4. gramps says:

Mr. Johnson’s becoming a ‘Capon’ is covered by most health insurance plans…..

        gramps

      5. Tsal says:

Soooo we should pay for mr j to have S but not mrs J. Gramps. Sexist a little. How about both be covered only To prevent a problem that endangers a persons health. Otherwise. If the reason for one to is have relations then both are covered. There is no difference. If you Old R! Won’t pay for the deed nor will I simple really

      6. gramps says:

tsal, do some home work B/4 you post….

        Tubal Ligations, are covered also…..Chill

        gramps…..PS

You must be on Estrogen replacement.

      7. Tsal says:

Gramps. For the last time since I know it’s past your bedtime. Are you aware that the BC has MANY uses not related to the deed. TL has nothing to do with those reasons. I know. I’ve been there Also the big V is covered. You need to start reading what you write.

So we agree that BOTH are covered for medical reasons only and neither is covered for anything related to the deed including performance which is merely for the deed. OR both are covered.

      8. gramps says:

        ‘HELLO”!

      9. Tsal says:

Got that Charlie brown. If you look I noted it so that was established way back then. I am trying to figure where you see a difference between that and V other than male ego. Come on Charlie. Stay with the discussion. Being dead in the water is an inconvenience and not a serious medical condition.

Either way. I’m enjoying the discussion. I actually believe you and I are not far apart on this – as long as we can both see what’s good for the goose ……

  9. Tsal says:

Why do I pay for a mans Viagra.

  10. Sue says:

Stop repeating lies – you’re embarassing yourself. No one is asking for you or anyone else to pay for birth control. This is about whether or or not contraceptives should be covered under private health insurance – the kind you pay for yourself, out of your own pocket! And this woman wasn’t testifying about herself. She was talking a fellow student who was prescriped birth control pills for a legitimate medical reason (ovarian problems) and the insurance wouldn’t cover it because the medication could also be used to prevent pregancy.

BTW – do you really think all women who use birth control f…like rabbits? The vast majority of women use birth control at some point in their lives – and it benefits their male partner as much as it does them.

You sound like a total misogynist, still clinging to the old double standard. What do you think about the males who have sex with women who use birth control? I’ll bet you think they’re just red-blooded American males ‘getting lucky’ – right? It’s only the women who are sl*ts.

    1. Tsal says:

      Great points sue.

  11. Tsal says:

Someone want to explain what the Catholics church has to do with this and why anyone is taking it’s opinion into account. If it doesn’t want to pay for BC what about the Christian science monitor or mother church or any other organization affiliated with the Christian science religion. Do they NOT have to offer health insurance at all to any of their thousands of employees. After all the religion does not promote going to doctors.

    1. tj says:

Bravo, Tsal! This could be a slippery slope! I do not want to live in a theocracy of any kind!

      1. Tsal says:

Nor do i and nor did our founding fathers The difference is the mother church would not consider it. But once you set a precedent ……..

      2. Tsal says:

And I hadn’t noticed that brown and boehner never spoke on their own. Thank you for pointing that out How horribly sad that anyone would condone demeaning anyone in such a vile manner for speaking out for what she/he believes

      3. gramps says:

        tj,

With respect to your alluding to the ‘slippery slope’…..

        ‘KY’ is not covered either…

        gramps

      4. petem says:

gramps, at least TRY to act like you’re over 13…

    2. Sharon says:

Correct. The Catholic Church swore and made affadavits(sic) that the hospitals and universities were public entities so they could get the faith-initiative money. Now they’re screaming ” No it’s a church too and we want an exemption. Which lie is to be believed? Because one of those has to be a lie.

      1. gramps says:

Sharon, the Catholic Church created ‘Purgatory’ for situations like this….

        gramps

  12. Sharon says:

She pays the premium herself with her own money. Did you not listen to her testimony? Just Like Rube Rush -rush to judgement Rush

  13. A says:

oh well, nothing a beer summit in the Rose Garden won’t fix

    1. Tsal says:

Not even close to funny if you are looking at very serious medical problems.

      1. A says:

hmm, here I thought this was an article about Scott Brown calling on Limbaugh to apologize, and not serious medical conditions.

I will continue to monitor the situation and let you know when then Chill Pill is covered Tsal.

      2. Tsal says:

It has been pointed out brown didn’t call on anyone. He had his people do it. And it is far more than about brown Pandering – a term I would not use if he’d actually grown a pair and spoken up himself. After all he did cosponsor the amendment. Is he proposing the same for the coverage of V? Didn’t think so.

      3. gramps says:

        Limbaugh apologized….

      4. Tsal says:

As he should have long before now. Night Charlie :)

  14. Truthmom says:

    Gramps, you make me sick.

    1. gramps says:

      RX:

Take two asprins & call your DR. in AM….

    2. tsalnew says:

Someone stating an opinion shouldn’t make anyone sick any more than limbaugh had a right to say what he did when Ms. Fluke stated her opinion. Gramps just has a unique sense of humor – it can grow on you if you give it time…………..maybe lots of time but still !!!

  15. tj says:

Let’s try to come back to the point here. Repubs have not spoken up in any meaningful way about how completely out of line Limbaugh was to treat Ms. Fluke the way he did. I believe it to border on being a civil rights violation in that he tried to intimidate this woman who was participating in our civil process.
What is or is not the purpose for these various drugs is not for Rush or anyone other than a treating doctor to decide.
Finally, Limbaugh did not apologize. He further belittled Ms. Fluke and our intelligence by telling the world we can’t take a joke. The only joke here is Limbaugh. I hope his sponsors continue to withdraw.
Finally, Brown, Limbaugh and anyone who did not loudly and clearly condemn this blatant misogyny needs to grow a set!

    1. gramps says:

      He apologized yesterday…..

Too bad about the ‘Titanic’, isn’t it.

      gramps

      1. tj says:

Rush did not apologize, he justified. Big difference. He said he was kidding and it wasn’t his fault no one could take a joke. No joke. Just typical Rush!!

Gramps, you just stick to the script! You’re following along nicely.

  16. tsalnew says:

It seems to me there are multiple issues here. First, Limbaugh’s apology was on his website – he couldn’t actually say the words? And it was far too little too late but he made the attempt.

Second, the fact that – to my knowledge – not one GOP presidential candidate has spoken up other than Santorum’s absurd comment.

Third, how does Federico lose his job and probably have his career destroyed for using a term I have heard many times when a person has a weakness and when explained the connotation apologizes immediately and RL given the chance to apologize ramps it up and his job is never in question.

Fourth – his comments as Sue pointed out are ludicrous. He’s not paying for anyone’s medications. It’s private healthcare and the individual pays for his own. No one is paying for my healthcare coverage except me. When did the average American get to decide what medications healthcare can cover?

Fifth – the catholic church has absolutely NO say in what a health care insurer can and cannot cover. NONE – get it out of our government

  17. Barbra says:

Thanks Sue, great point. Scott is a great guy, but a political pawn, as is Rush. Unfortunately Americans listen to this stuff without knowing whats behind it. Which is to cloud the real purpose that may help the same ignorant people that fight against it. Linda, I’m amazed you would condone such a nasty person. The ignorance shown here needs to be fought with the disgust it deserves. This jerk earns millions spewing one sided ideas. I will not buy another product or service from any sponsor of this person. I will question Scott for trying to block the current bill. It’s about choice, a woman’s choice, and if your a catholic it’s your choice too. The root issue will help lower income and struggling young people, why is that so bad?

  18. 1stackmack says:

what he said was wrong, just let me get that out there.however l’m sike of radio and tv personalities having to apologize for anything said over the air for on the edge remarks what happened to freedom of speech ? a few years ago lmas had similar situation with a one liner joke.and the opie & anthony show were fired twice from regular radio and suspected from satellite radio because a homeless guy said something about condalisa rice.again that was satellite radio were anything goes.so again should rush have said what he said.no but he said it,so be it…

    1. petem says:

1stackmack – if you need this explained to you, you’re already lost. The target of his comments is a young woman, who innocently spoke up as is her right to do. rather than deal with the substance like a adult, RL, reverted to his more natural 13 y.o. self. The reason we consider this wrong is the same reason we teach children not to speak as he did. It is disrespectful, destructive and ultimately utterly unproductive. Rush could have launched into a diatribe about the religious or moral reasons but instead he went with the Jr. High School style that his ‘fans’ expect. He’s a loser a dirt bag and anyone associated with him should be shunned as he should be.
By the way the list of advertisers who have pulled their business is growing. Hopefully he’ll go down in flames like Glenn Beck did. Good riddance to bad garbage.

    2. Tsal says:

1stack I totally agree with Pete. Freedom of speech does not trump respect. RL was revolting. And while being revolting he was also dead wrong. As pointed out he is not paying for anything to do with anyone’s healthcare other than his own. He has no say whatsoever. It’s be a mess if individuals did. Suppose I said I don’t want to pay for anyone’s cholesterol med since I don’t have high cholesterol.

Pete m I’ll have to look up what sponsors are pulling away and support them

Meanwhile I’ve been put all day. Have ANY of the GOP pres candidates has the you know what to speak up. Or are their heads in the sand as they were when some of their audience booed a soldier because he was gay or cheered when someone called out let him die in regard to a person with no health insurance. Makes me wonder how anyone could have any respect for them

  19. andyme says:

Rush comments were way off the mark, the real issue in this debate is exactly what Bill O’Reilly said last Friday evening on his talking points in regards to Miss Fluke’s extra-curricular activities.

Liberals think everything is free, wake up America, there is no free lunch any place.

We cannot see the forest through the trees.
