Phantom Gourmet: Truly Jorg's Bakery In Saugus

SAUGUS (CBS) - A strip mall on Route One in Saugus probably isn't the first place you'd expect to find a truly world-class bakery.

But that's only because you've never been to Truly Jorg's.

Inside this unexpected spot, Chef-Owner Jorg Amsler creates some of the best European pastries you'll find this side of Europe.

"I don't want to just do a Swiss thing, or just a German thing, I want to bring the whole European flavor a little bit together, and just throw it all in one pastry shop," said Amsler.

Jorg grew up in Switzerland, took an apprenticeship when he was 20, and has been baking ever since all over the world.

"I've worked on cruise ships, in resorts, hotels, for catering companies, so you know I've been around the block. I've been doing this for god, you know, 25 years," said Amsler.

And Jorg is more than a baker. He's also an artist.

Whether he's icing and decorating, or carving and spray painting, he makesg sure every creation tastes as good as it looks.

"There's a lot of artistic work involved and it's a challenge, and it's just a lot of fun doing it, so yeah, I get up in the morning and I'm excited to go to work," said Amsler.
