A woman was killed in the fire at this home on Sunday morning.
SOMERVILLE (CBS) – A 94-year-old woman was killed in a fire in Somerville Sunday morning.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Kim Tunnicliffe reports.
Neighbors called 911 to report heavy smoke coming from a home on Boston Avenue just before 8 a.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Jim Lucia said when firefighters arrived to the scene, they found a woman dead inside the burning building.
“They made their way into the kitchen, where they were met with a heavy smoke condition and fire. They quickly knocked the fire down, and they discovered the 94-year-old woman, who had already perished from her injuries,” said Lucia.
Fire officials think they know how the fire started.
“The thought is she possibly may have been cooking, and the clothes ignited,” said Lucia.
Damage is estimated at $75,000.
