Five Mass. Police Departments Receive Grants For K-9 Officers

BOSTON (CBS) – Five police departments including the State Police just got a big grant with money aimed at helping their four legged officers.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Laurie Kirby reports

First and foremost, many K-9 officers will soon sport bullet proof vests, which are often times are the first line of defense.

On top of that, the departments will get more training aids like those bite suits and more training to make sure the handlers and dogs work well together.

The end result the dogs are safer and so is the public.

Along with the State Police, departments in Wareham, Holliston, Westford and the Environmental Police received grants totaling $17,000.

Hopefully they’ll be trained to ‘sniff’ for drugs, so they can be paraded through ‘High Schools’ unannounced on a monthly basis!
