Lowell Bridal Shop Gives Away Wedding Gowns To Military Couples

LOWELL (CBS) – A Lowell Bridal shop is giving away dozens of wedding gowns for free.

Instead of just throwing them away, Chantilly Place in downtown Lowell is hoping to clear more room by giving away over 70 discounted wedding gowns. Shop owner Colleen Ferry says the designer sample gowns range in size and color.

She says the gowns are for military couples who are planning for their special day. Teajin Sung got one of the free dresses.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Bernice Corpuz reports

Sung says, “The one I found was ivory color, trumpet style with the train on it.”

“I helped her pick it out,” says her fiance James Bartlett, an Air Force veteran. “I think she looks beautiful in it.”

Her dress normally costs a few thousand dollars, but they’re taking it home for free. The couple plans to get married this summer.

This is some different outcome than what happened with a Priscilla of Boston (owned by David’s Bridal) store that took their leftover inventory, at the store’s closing, and threw it into the dumpster AFTER they had workers spray paint the gowns.
Thank you for thinking about our men and women who serve this country! You’ve helped to make their special day a little brighter.

As the mother of a military member, I want to thank you for what you are doing. My son is not getting married, but I still felt compelled to thank you for the heartfelt service you are doing. There are so many young couples out there trying to find the money to get married, and lets face it – our military makes very little. As JaniN commented above, you have so much more CLASS than Priscilla’s/David’s Bridal.
