Heyman: J.D. Drew "Very Likely" To Retire

BOSTON (CBS) - Former Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew is "very likely" to retire, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

The 36-year-old just finished a five-year, $70 million deal with the worst year of his major league career. In 2012, Drew hit .222 with four homers and 22 RBi in just 81 games.

But, Drew did have a couple good years in Boston. In 2008, Drew earned his only All-Star appearance, batting .280 with a .408 OBP, 19 homers and 64 RBIs in 109 games. The next year, Drew hit .279 with 24 homers and 68 RBI over 139 games.

His best season came with the Braves in 2004, when he hit .305 with 31 homers and 93 RBI and finished sixth in the MVP voting.

But, he may be best remembered for his inability to remain on the field throughout his career. The injury-prone right fielder played in 135 or more games just seven times in his 13 full seasons in the majors.
