Roche: Bruins Set To Be Honored At White House

WASHINGTON DC (CBS) - The fun never stops these days for Boston sports fans.

From the Patriots clinching their fifth trip to the Super Bowl under the Belichick-Brady combo on Sunday with a 23-20 win over Baltimore in the AFC Championship game, we are now here at The White House where the Boston Bruins will be honored this afternoon.

As you can imagine, I haven't slept much in the last 18 hours.

The Black and Gold will be honored in the East Room by President Obama for winning the Stanley Cup last June. The entire team, including Tomas Kaberle, Mark Recchi, and Shane Hnidy are expected to be on hand.

The Bruins will also participate in a visit to the Boys and Girls Club of Washington, DC later today. The team will play street hockey and video games with the kids, and also donate two full sets of street hockey equipment to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington.

It is always cool to be here at The White House. I had the pleasure to cover the two Red Sox World Series teams and the latest Celtic championship team when they had their visit. My colleague Steve Burton had the three Patriots Super Bowl honors, and perhaps we will have a fourth soon.

The good news is, they keep letting me come back.

Right now I'm sitting in the White House Press briefing room with WBZ-TV photographer Steve Swan waiting for the quick ceremony to begin. It is expected to start around 1:30pm.

I will be live on WBZ-TV beginning at 5pm today with coverage for the 5, 6, 10 (over on My TV 38) and 11pm news.
