RHP Justin Germano Turns Down $1M For Chance With Red Sox
BOSTON (CBS) - Pitcher Justin Germano has returned from playing in South Korea to sign with the Red Sox, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
The 29-year-old right-hander pitched for the Indians last season before being sold to the Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization. The Lions offered Germano $1 million to remain with the team, but Germano instead opted for a chance to make the Red Sox major league roster, according to Heyman.
Germano also played last season for the Indians' Triple-A affiliate, the Columbus Clippers, where in July he pitched a perfect game, just the fifth in the 127-year history of the International League.
His major league career, though, has been far short of perfect. Germano is 8-20 with a 5.02 ERA in his career with the Indians, Reds and Padres.
