Woman Hit And Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver In Haverhill

HAVERHILL (CBS) - A 63-year-old woman was hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver outside a doughnut shop in Haverhill on Sunday morning.

Karen LaPierre was hit around 5:20 a.m. outside the "Heavenly Donuts" store on South Main Street. She was standing behind a parked vehicle in the parking lot.

Police have charged 37-year-old Lisa A. Leavitt with motor vehicle homicide, OUI (alcohol), and negligent operation.

Leavitt is set to be arraigned on Monday.

Police said LaPierre and her husband were active volunteers at Sacred Heart Parish, and she was taking the doughnuts to church.
