Gary Washburn On Celtics Bench: More Improved Than Last Year

BOSTON (CBS) - Gary Washburn spoke with Toucher & Rich Tuesday about the Celtics, the rumored trade of Jermaine O'Neal and Reggie Evans.

Why did the trade for David West fall apart?

"Obviously the Hornets don't want Jermaine O'Neal to use him as a player," Washburn said,"but they didn't want his expiring contract they were looking for a third team to take the expiring contract who were looking for cap space in the summer, they couldn't find that third team. The Celtics would only offer West so much money and I think the maximum was a little bit over $8 million where the Pacers offered him $10 million and that's what he took," Washburn said.

Jeff Green is sitting out right now with an injury, what's going on with him?

"We really don't know.  They caught something in his physical and they just have to do more tests. This obviously could be something very serious or very minor, we just don't know yet," said Washburn.

With the players the Celtics have, what's the quality of the bench?

"At this point you've got guys who have proven in other places, played big minutes in other places. I think it's more improved than last year," said Washburn.

Is there any chance that the Celtics bring in Reggie Evans?

"He's going to have to take the minimum if he came here so it would be all about winning and I think Reggie wants more than that, but hey he hasn't signed yet either," said Washburn.
