BROOKLINE (CBS) — A Brookline teenager is in trouble for allegedly stealing a $1500 camera from another student and trying to sell it on Craigslist.

Police say 18-year-old Kyuseo Kim swiped the camera from a female student at from the Brimmer & May School.

The victim found the camera for sale on Craigslist. She contacted police, set up a fake email address and arranged to buy the camera.

Officers were standing by when Kim met the victim to sell the camera. He was immediately arrested and the camera was recovered.

The victim, who is hoping to study photography in college, told police she had
much of her portfolio saved on the camera.

And while she did her camera back, police say Kim admitted that he had deleted all of the photos stored on the camera before trying to sell it.

    1. If she is going to be a serious photographer she needs to learn the proper approach to backing up her files

    2. as long as the card wasn’t reformatted there is a good chance she can recover the deleted files using recovery software

Yes, after a shoot you should download the files to at least 2 disk drives, preferably one to off line storage like an external disk drive. Also a archive strategy for long term storage is needed. In the film days you could throw it in box. Now its so much easier to lose.

I never had luck with recovery from Flash.

To John and DaveL – instead of focusing on how/why she didn’t save her photos properly, how about focusing on the fact that some dirtbag stole her camera to begin with!
