It was mid-morning, when "Fernando" heard something in his bedroom, and went to investigate. He encountered a tall, slender black male.

"It took me a couple of seconds...then, he said...what's up?" says Fernando. "He then made a motion to his belt, as if he had a weapon." Fernando says the thief then ran downstairs, grabbed his car keys, and drove off in his silver Volvo S40.

In addition to taking the Volvo, the man also stole some jewelry.

The thief is said to be black, about 6'3" with short hair.  He was wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt.

WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports.

Even though there have been no rash of burglaries in the Thompsonville neighborhood, residents are now somewhat nervous. "We never lock the backdoor," says Julia Famiano, "but from now on we will, or at least until they catch the guy."

Police suspect the thief may be responsible for other break-ins in Brookline and Boston.

The 2006 silver Volvo has the Massachusetts plate number 829BA2.

Anyone with information should call police.
