A pickup truck crashed into a bike shop in Attleboro.
ATTLEBORO (CBS) – A local bike shop owner says he froze as an out-of-control pickup truck came crashing through his shop on Wednesday.
The driver lost control, sped through the parking lot, careened into the store, and came to rest 20-feet inside the business.
Rick Desmarais has fixed all sorts of bike problems in his 27 years at the Union Cycle shop, but pickup trucks are another matter, especially when they plow into the place.
WBZ-TV’s Ken MacLeod reports
Cell phone video shows emergency crews dragging the Ford from the store.
The ordeal began when 73-year- old John Leggett left the Subway shop across the street.
Rick was standing just outside his office, perhaps 20 feet from the impact.
Shattering glass, crumbling cinder block and pulverized sheet rock have all been replaced by temporary plywood now.
Rick says the driver didn’t seem hurt, clutching his Subway sandwich in one hand and his cane in the other.
The accident mangled 30 bikes, some quite pricey, but mostly kids bikes on a Christmas display.
Thankfully, no kids were looking at them.
