Websites Help Users Create Their Own Apps

BOSTON (CBS) - It could be the next big thing for those already popular apps: Make your own.

All you need is the idea and an internet connection and others will do the work for you for free.

Websites like AppMakr, BuzzTouch and GameSalad can turn your creation into a reality.

AppMakr.com promises a free app in just minutes. You'll have to keep it simple just linking to websites, texts, photos, or videos. But there is no coding required. If you want to get more complicated other websites charge $400 or more to design your app.

WBZ-TV's Kate Merrill reports

"I think these sites that allow you to develop your own app have that app are just gonna grow like gang-busters," says Carl Howe of Boston's Yankee Group.

Brad Rosen knows exactly what kind of work goes into making an app from scratch. Brad and his team of computer experts created Drync, a virtual wine cellar for your smartphone.

It took years for Drync to build up a customer base that is now approaching 500,000 users. Rosen offers this advice to budding app makers, "Look for a big market and solve a big problem."

Keep in mind you may be able to make the app for free but you will still have to spend some money to get it into an app store. Android charges developers $25 and Apple charges a $99 registration fee.
