Our 1st Snowflakes

Many of us will see our first snowflakes this season before Thursday night is complete.

Until then...

Watch Melissa's forecast:

Clouds are taking over as a frontal boundary enters the region.

We can expect showers from time to time through the latter part of the afternoon as a wave of low pressure rides along the front.

Then, the front starts to head south.  However, it stays nearby in southeastern Mass.  Another wave rides along the front tonight which means rain will re-develop.

On Thursday, a stronger wave of low pressure will induce a rain/mix, heavy at times, especially early in the morning and again later in the evening.

In summary, rain will be heavy at times early Thursday morning. Then, another wave will produce rain for southeastern Mass., and a rain/snow mix for areas north of the Mass Pike in the evening.

Almost everyone living north of the Mass Pike will receive their first snowflakes of this season Thursday night before the precipitation shield exits to the east.

There may be 2+" of snow accumulating on the higher terrain of VT, NH and extreme north central Massachusetts.

Otherwise, this snow is 'harmless' for most of us.  Sunshine will be back on Friday.

This weekend:

The GFSx and the EURO are now coming into alignment. If you were hoping for the less stormy solution, you'll like this outcome.

Here's a view of the GFSx on Saturday evening.

Here's a view of the EURO on Saturday evening...

As depicted by both model forecasts above, the center of circulation of the low that travels from the south/Mid-Atlantic is expected to pass farther east than the 40/70 benchmark.

That being said, eastern Mass. will have the chance of some rain/snow showers late-day Saturday.

We will also have high astronomical tides during this time period with breezy onshore winds.  We will keep a close eye on the potential for minor splashover and minor coastal flooding.

Melissa :)
