Manchester, NH Officer Cleared In High School Arrest
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- Police in Manchester, N.H., have determined that an officer did not use excessive force when arresting a high school student earlier this month.
The confrontation between Detective Darren Murphy and 17-year-old Frank Harrington at Manchester West High School was caught on video by another student.
Harrington's mother filed a complaint with police alleging Murphy used excessive force.
Harrington says he took his sister's bag as a prank, but the assistant principal contacted Murphy, the school resource officer.
WMUR-TV reports Murphy said in an affidavit that Harrington became "loud and disorderly" and he wouldn't stop "yelling and swearing."
The school is also investigating.
