BOSTON (CBS) – An 18-year-old Boston University student was seriously hurt when she was hit by a car while riding her bike on Commonwealth Avenue on Wednesday evening.

The 21-year-old driver, who is also a BU student, struck the biker near the corner of Buick Street at around 6 p.m.

The biker, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to Brigham & Women’s Hospital with head trauma. She was thrown into the air when she was hit and suffered serious injuries.

The driver, who has been a BU student for the past four years, did not re-register his car in Massachusetts and was considered to be driving without a license at the time.

He has been summonsed to appear in Brighton District Court.
