BOSTON (CBS) – Cash awards are on the line for some Massachusetts students competing to build the best solar powered house.

The Energy Department’s Solar Decathlon features full-sized homes built on the National Mall in Washington.

Chelsea Kelley of Dennis represents Mass. College of Art and UMass-Lowell. She tells WBZ that teams from around the world are represented, along with others from the United States. She says her team’s entry features a solar trellis design that shades the house, while generating electricity.

Kelley says her team hopes to sell the solar house, and study its true efficiency.
