Brady Named AFC Offensive Player Of The Week

BOSTON (CBS) -For the second straight week, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Brady followed up his Week 1 517-yard performance against the Dolphins with 423-yards and three touchdowns against the San Diego Chargers. Brady was 31-for-40 in the Patriots 35-21 win.

Brady has now earned the honor in consecutive weeks three times in his career (2007, 2010 and 2011).

Brady is the first player to earn AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks to open a season since the award was instituted in 1984.

"There're so many great players in the league and really, our offense is 11 guys out there," Brady said on Wednesday. "There's never one player. It's not the quarterback, it's not the receivers; it's everybody. Everyone's got to be on the same page doing their job. I think we've done a decent job the first couple of weeks getting off to a good start, but it's only going to get tougher from here."

Brady is now in second place with 19 Player of the Week honors, one behind Peyton Manning's 20 for the all-time lead.

Brady has also been nominated, for the second week in a row, for the FedEx Air Player of the Week. With seven nominations, the Pats QB has the most FedEx NFL Player of the Week nominations of any NFL player since the beginning of the 2010 season.

Fans can vote online until 3 pm Friday with the winner announced later in the day.
