Bruins Sign Defenseman Bodnarchuck To 1-Year Deal

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins have signed defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk to a one-year contract extension, General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced Friday.

The 5-11, 185 pound defenseman has spent the past three seasons with the Providence Bruins. In the 2010-2011 season he set professional career highs in games played (75), assists (15), and points (16) for Providence. He made his NHL debut with Boston during the 2009-2010 season, appearing in five NHL games.

Bodnarchuck registered five goals and 10 assists in 70 games with Providence in 2009-10 and was named the Providence Bruins Best Defenseman. He had one goal and 15 assists last season for the Baby B's.

Per club policy, financial terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

The 23-year-old was originally drafted by the Boston in the fifth round (128th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He is expected to join the Bruins in their full training camp which begins on Friday, September 16.
