AUBURN (CBS) – The westbound side of the Mass Pike has reopened after a fatal crash in Auburn.

A six-year-old girl was killed and an adult and two other children sustained minor injuries.

It happened around 1 p.m.

Two vehicles were involved – a truck and a Chrysler Town and Country van.

A State Police investigation has determined that the van was traveling in the middle lane when the vehicle made contact with the box truck. After the contacting the truck, the van lost control hitting the guardrail near the breakdown lane.

The six-year-old girl was ejected from the van.

The van then careened across all three lanes, hit the guardrail along the median, and flipped over onto its roof.

The driver of the box truck was not injured.

The westbound side of the Mass Pike was closed for much of the afternoon.

This is terrible. My thoughts go out for the child, and her family in the car that were injured. Another terrible recent highway tragedy, and in this case another SUV that became a destructive weapon on the highway. When will these giant roadhog of vehicles be banished from roads, including for endangering also those who are driving or driving in them?!

What’s sad is when you know them its hurts 10 times more. I known lodia over ten years and I have been in shock that this happened to her and her daughter please god bless them and keep them safe RIP brandy
