Driver Sought In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash In Chelsea

CHELSEA (CBS) - Police are looking for the driver responsible in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man Sunday morning.

Israel Sanchez was walking along Route 16 in Chelsea when he crossed the road near Washington Avenue and was struck by the vehicle. The 39-year-old was later pronounced dead at Mass. General Hospital.

"In a time of tragedy like this, the public's help can truly make a difference and provide some solace to the Sanchez family," said Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes.

Authorities are looking for a vehicle matching the following description:

  • Small in size and dark in color
  • Damage to its front end
  • Cracked or broken windshield
  • May have lost a strip of molding from the windshield area
  • May have lost one windshield wiper

Investigators have checked in with local mechanics and auto body shops for any vehicles matching the description looking for repairs.
