This weekend: Hurricane Irene:

Follow: Hurricane Irene's Track

We could be dealing with the northern periphery of 'Irene" as early as Saturday afternoon and evening.

The brunt of the storm can be expected from Saturday night through early Monday morning.

The current models trend the track slightly farther east. Most models are steering the eye of the storm somewhere between Plymouth/Bristol counties and the outer Cape on Sunday night.

The locales east of the center of Irene will have the highest winds while the areas to the west of the center of the storm will have the heaviest rain.

Regardless, we should prepare for a storm as strong as a CAT 2 or as 'weak' as a tropical storm.

At the moment, it looks more likely that it will be a CAT 1 or 2 as it approaches New England.

The current models show a track that is similar to a mix of Hurricane Bob's path in 1991 and Hurricane Bertha's track in 1996.

Bob was a CAT 2 when it made landfall here on August 19, 1991, while Hurricane Bertha weakened to a tropical storm by the time it made its way to New England.
