BOSTON (CBS) – Grape tomatoes are tangy and good for you!
The Fresh Grocer, Tony Tantillo, shows us how they add a little color and zip to any salad or dish.
Grape tomatoes are priced reasonably because there are so many tomatoes to choose from. Because it’s August and in the middle of the summer, there are plenty of tomatoes out there.
Tony says the flavor is incredible, but you have to select and store your grape tomatoes correctly.
First, make sure the tomatoes are shaped like a grape. Make sure they are very red all the way around, and there’s no visible moisture in the container.
When you get home, open up the container and put them on your counter. Most importantly, do not store them in the refrigerator.
To make them into a sauce, Tony slices them in half, sautés them with a little bit of garlic, combines them with a little bit of fresh basil and some olive oil. Add some pasta and you’re good to go.
You can watch Tony weekdays at noon on WBZ-TV.
