Group Submits Petition For Recall Election Of Lawrence Mayor
LAWRENCE (CBS) -- The group seeking a recall election of Mayor William Lantigua may get its wish after submitting a petition signed by registered voters in the city on Monday.
"We made the impossible possible," said Rev. Edwin Rodriguez, who is spearheading the recall effort. "Everybody said that we couldn't get it, that we wouldn't have enough signatures to bring. We do. We have more than enough."
Rodriguez brought a petition bearing more than 5,500 names to City Hall Monday afternoon, well over the required number of signatures.
To force a recall election, the group needed signatures from at least 15 percent of the electorate, which works out to 5,232 people.

"This is a great day, because the city of Lawrence today is screaming loud and saying, 'We are not afraid,'" Rodriguez said. "Enough is enough."
Lantigua had no comment when reached by WBZ-TV Monday afternoon. He said he will wait until the election department goes through the signatures and will address the press at that time.
