MILTON, N.H. (CBS) – A shark was found in the woods of Milton, New Hampshire Thursday night.

The blue shark, which was about 6-8 feet long, was discovered in the woods just off of Rural Tenerriffe Road, near Route 125 and the Spaulding Turnpike, Milton police confirmed to WBZ-TV. Milton is located near the Maine border.

While there is a pond in Milton, the nearest salt water source is about an hour’s drive away. The man who found the shark believes it was caught in the Atlantic Ocean, but was discarded because the fisherman may not have had a license for ocean fishing.

Blue sharks tend to migrate long distances and feed on small fish, according to the NOAA.

Officers from the Milton police and New Hampshire Fish and Game decided to leave the shark where it was dumped and let nature take its course.

The theory doesn’t hold water, so to speak. I don’t have a deep sea fishing license, so I’m going to dump the shark I caught? Who would even know you need a license to catch a shark? It wouldn’t have prevented the fisherman from eating it! And it’s certainly not the first question I would ask. Hey, do you have a license for that shark? Well, at least they didn’t use the old waterspout excuse.

That is just sad, so much for catch and release. One thing if he was keeping it for food, or was going to have it turned into a trophy of some sort, not my kinda thing, but have seen it done. To just dump it in the woods is a waste of life. Beautiful fish. Whomever did this is an a$$.

Here is what happened. Someone caught a blue shark and I’m sure wanted to show it to friends and also have the intention of eating it. Only problem, blue shark is truly an unedible fish. Blue sharks urinate through their skin, doesn’t matter how you prepare it, it still tastes disgusting. Once they learned that, they just ditched it in the woods. End of story.

I also believe that was the reason for dumping the shark. The fisherman was a noob and lacked the knowledge for that species. It seems that no other alternative was applicable as the shark was already dead in the fishermans’ custody and he felt there was no point bringing it back to the ocean and cannot be consumed. Sure is a waste. Too bad he couldn’t charged with animal cruelty/’murder’.

I don’t care what happened, or what the reason was, this is just a really sad story. Some kind of complete idiot to just dump it in the woods. I agree with the post that said, “catch and release” – if you didn’t intend to eat it, or stuff it, you should have let it go. And, at the very least, if you didn’t want it I believe that you should have put it back into the ocean where it came from and let nature take it’s course there, and not in the woods. Really?!??! Stupid people…

It is sad for the shark that his life ended this way. I am sure that, where ever that fisherman who caught it is, that he or she realizes the mistake they made. At least the shark will be food for some of the wildlife in the woods.

“Let nature take its course” ummm that isn’t nature. Sharks don’t normally die in the woods. Animals might eat it, but would it be good for them to eat it? They normally wouldn’t eat shark… why not just throw it into the ocean? Then nature can take its course

Make sure you use a flash Light if you are in the woods of Milton, New Hampshire at night. You dont want go tripping over any sharks.
Saturday night live had a skit called Land Sharks. You laughed at it then, but it doesnt seem to be as rediculous any more.

HAHA I’m guessing that someone probably found this shark and it was already dead, maybe out in the ocean or maybe washed up on the beach, and decided to dump it into the woods just the f*** with people. Serisouly, why would a fisherman just dump it into the woods because they didn’t havee a license? If they didn’t want it, why would they go through all that trouble of taking it to the woods when they could just the line and leave it alive in the ocean?
