Coast Guard Ends Search For Boat After Mayday Call Off Gloucester

BOSTON (CBS) – The Coast Guard has suspended its search off the coast of Gloucester for a boat with two people on board.

Petty Officer Connie Terrell said they received a Mayday call from a man on the boat just after 10 p.m. Thursday.

"He said that they were about 20-to-40 minutes outside of Gloucester Harbor. They were taking on water. There were two people on board, both of which were going to put on their life jackets and it sounds like we lost communication with them just after that," Terrell told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Terrell said they've received no reports of an overdue boat or missing boaters.

Multiple Coast Guard crews searched 712 square miles for 14 hours, but did not locate the boat or the two reported persons aboard.

Anyone with information should call the Sector Boston Command Center at 617-223-3201.
